Singer Wyclef Jean asked all his fans and followers to please pray for his people, and if possible to make a donation for the labor and hours it is going to take to for a rescue team to assist in the deadly earthquake that shook the ground of his hometown.

According to his internet page, the musician received a text message saying "a lot" of people died due to this natural disaster, but what was not revealed, were the specifics.

"What I just received in a message was that there were a lot of casualties due to an earthquake in Haiti", said the artist who quickly rounded up a team of people who can volunteer from his Yele foundation.

"Please send a text message with the word Yele to 501501 to donate $5 to Haiti. Your donations will help with the rescue mission. They need help. If you can, please donate".

Before all this, he told CNN he was on a phone call with someone in Haiti when the earthquake began. He said he is associated with a TV station over in Haiti which collapsed and is in hopes of receiving images from the disaster.

"I want to express my worries and concerns for my people in Haiti and I can't stress the fact that we need immediate help. We are going to need the United States and the International community to act immediately", he told CNN.

"This has been the biggest devastation Haiti has faced", he added.




El cantante haitiano Wyclef Jean pidió el martes a sus seguidores que oren por sus compatriotas y que hagan donaciones para ayudar en las labores de rescate tras el terremoto de 7 grados que sacudió a su país.

Según su página de internet, el músico ha recibido mensajes de texto con informes de que “mucha” gente falleció luego del desastre natural, sin embargo, no especificó la fuente.

“Lo que me acaba de llegar por mis mensajes de texto es que muchos han muerto a causa del terremoto en Haití”, escribió el artista, quien anteriormente ha recolectado ayuda humanitaria a través de su fundación Yele Haití.

“Por favor manda un mensaje de texto con la palabra Yele al 501501 para donar cinco dólares a Yele Haití. Tu dinero ayudará con los esfuerzos de auxilio. Ellos necesitan nuestra ayuda. Por favor ayuda si puedes”, pidió.

Posteriormente dijo en una entrevista con la cadena CNN que estaba hablando por teléfono con una persona en Haití cuando ocurrió la sacudida. Contó que él está asociado con una estación de televisión en el país, que estaba derrumbada aunque esperaba poder obtener algunas imágenes sobre los daños causados por el terremoto.

“Quiero expresar mi preocupación hacia la gente de Haití y el hecho de que vamos a necesitar ayuda inmediata y vamos a necesitar que los Estados Unidos y la comunidad internacional reaccionen inmediatamente”, señaló a CNN.

“Esta es la peor devastación que nosotros los haitianos hemos enfrentado”, agregó.
